NORDEUS – FAN CONTENT GUIDELINES

WHAT IS THIS DOCUMENT? We want to support you in being able to create and share stuff for our games, so we have put together these simple and informal guidelines to help you (‘Guidelines’ for short). This includes some legal stuff (we’re sorry about that, but our lawyers made us put this in to protect our games, you and us). WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH NORDEUS GAMES? You can create any fan-made/user-made content (or ‘fan content’ for shot) you like within reason provided that you and the fan content follow these Guidelines:
THE GOLDEN RULES:
- No commercial usage. You cannot do anything with our games for any commercial or money-making purpose (except as explained in the Let’s Plays/Streams section below).
- Make it clearly ‘unofficial’. Please make it clear that your fan content is not associated with or endorsed by us, which you can do by including the following disclaimer in an obvious and easy to read place: “This is an unofficial fan work under the Nordeus Fan Guidelines. Not approved/endorsed by Nordeus.” You can use our name or game name in connection with your fan content but again it needs to be clear that this is unofficial and not endorsed by us. Your fan content is your own responsibility.
- Don’t put it in other games/products. Your fan content should stand on its own and must not be incorporated into a third party game or product (whether or not for commercial use). If you are a modder and want to make a fan mod of our games in another game, please contact us for permission first (which will be at our discretion).
- Don’t hurt us or others. Please be respectful to other players and our games. Please do not do or say anything regarding our games that is illegal, misleading, harmful or could hurt us, our games or other users. Your fan content can use our games of course, but please do not infringe the rights of other people (such as other games, movies, books, TV shows etc).
CAN YOU GIVE US SOME EXAMPLES?
Here are some examples of things that are OK:
- Videos or livestreams (more on this below).
- Drawing fanart involving our games characters and locations and posting this online (e.g. on your own blog or somewhere else).
- Creating a games community website or forum.
- Taking screenshots and share them online.
WHO OWNS THE FAN CONTENT?
As far as we and you are concerned, you own the fan content you create but we need you to give us certain rights over it so that we can actually transmit it and use it for our games. Sorry for the legalese, but as part of us making these Guidelines available you grant us a non-exclusive, permanent, irrevocable, worldwide, sub-licensable, royalty-free licence to use, modify, reproduce, create derivative works from, distribute, transmit, perform communicate and exploit the fan content in connection with our games.
Just to be clear, we always own our games itself and their contents (such as characters, setting, gameplay and appearance).
CAN FANS MAKE VIDEOS/LET’S PLAYS/STREAMS?
Yes! We welcome you to stream and create videos, Let’s Plays and machinima about our games for distribution on online video platforms (like YouTube or Twitch), as long as they comply with these Guidelines. The content must be distributed for free: monetising such content via standard advertising revenue on video/streaming/online platforms is OK, but we are not OK with you monetising it in any other way without our written approval (which includes using our games to promote someone else’s products or services). IS IT OK TO HAVE NORDEUS GAMES AT TOURNAMENTS, EVENTS OR LAN PARTIES?
Yes, provided it is for amateurs and not for commercial purposes. This applies to videos/streams of them too. If you would like to run a public commercial tournament or event featuring our games, please ask us first (see our email address below).
WHAT IF A FAN WANTS TO DO SOMETHING OUTSIDE THESE GUIDELINES?
Ask us first! Just in case it takes some time to get back to you (or if for some reason we don’t reply at all), that does not mean you have approval.
CHANGES TO THESE GUIDELINES
We expect these Guidelines to be updated from time to time – we will post an update on [URL] when that happens. Once we change these Guidelines, it will typically become binding 30 days after we post it online. During that period, you are welcome to contact us at email@example.com if you have specific questions about the changes.
If something is not clear to you in these Guidelines, please ask us first. If there is anything you think we could add to make it clearer let us know. We reserve all rights and other matters not specifically dealt with in these Guidelines. Again, you can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
